Parents and families occupy a central position in their children’s lives and we respect that parents/carers are experts on their own child. We encourage parents/carers to become involved in the education of their child and view our pre-school working in partnership with the home environment. Parents and carers are welcome to come and help at a pre-school session at any time. Parents are welcome to discuss their child’s progress, or any other matter relating to their child or Paperchain at any time. Information about children’s development and progress is shared openly with that child’s parents.
There are also some other areas in which you can help us:
Coat Pegs
Each child will have a coat peg with their name and a picture on (e.g.
a train). Please encourage your child to hang their own coat on the right
peg – this will help them locate their coat when they play outside.
Registration
To enable us to clearly mark the register to indicate a child is in pre-school
we ask you to help them find their name card (with the same picture as
their peg and a colour coded sticker to indicate their colour group) in
the first few weeks and then encourage them to do this independently thereafter.
Then the card is then placed on the appropriate colour coded boards (red,
blue or green) displayed on the trolley.
Settling in
A happy introduction to pre-school for your child is most important, that
is why we will organise parent/carer and toddler visits in the run up
to your child attending so that you both can meet the staff and familiarise
yourself with the surroundings, the toys and equipment. To help your child
enjoy pre-school be prepared to stay with them until they feel at home
with us. Do not rush this settling in period, then they will be happy
to let you go home and leave them. If there is a problem each child has
a ‘key’ member of staff who will ease the process and will
always be the familiar face for your child to be left with (we have decided,
with experience, that this person is primarily decided by your child e.g.
is the person they feel most comfortable being with). Your child’s
key worker will therefore make themselves known to you in the first few
weeks of your child attending.
